Tai Chi Chuan Instruction
'Ultimate Energy', is the loose translation to invite or re-member the concepts of patience, balance (both physical and mental) and meditation. Constant motion done EXTREMELY slowly is the trademark of the Taichi practice. Taichi can be experienced both standing and seated and knows no age limits or physical restraints. I prefer to teach in the standing position, instructing you in the Yang style, long form. Therefore be prepared to stand in a relaxed stance for at least an hour. We will learn how to grasp the sparrow's tail, pick up needle from seabed and ride the tiger, amongst many other activities.
Weighted Blanket Therapy
One example of the therapeutic application of weight is the use of a weighted blanket.
People experiencing symptoms of depression, mania, anxiety, psychosis, paranoia, trauma or detoxification have reported relief from the use of weighted blankets in particular. People with mood disorders, trauma histories, substance abuse histories and those who tend to engage in self-injurious behaviors often report positive effects when using weighted items when feeling stressed, disorganized or when cravings occur. Some use weighted items only when in crisis states, others only when not in crisis states and yet there are others who report it is beneficial at both times. Those who report having a positive effect from the use of weight typically describe it as having a "grounding" effect. However, it is important to stress that for some it may be very alerting to the system. Furthermore, as with any type of stimulation, there are people who report having a noxious or undesirable response to the use of weighted items.
No removal of clothing is required (other than shoes and socks). The client is in a reclining position either on the table or in a lounger. Warm flaxseed boots and gloves are offered as well as a warm eye pillow. A soft warming blanket with weight ranging from 5 pounds to 30 pounds is wrapped around the client who is then left to meditate, sleep, or just experience a period of solitude and soft music; usually 15 to 20 minutes.
The client is then awakened gently, boots and gloves are removed, and finally the blanket is quickly lifted, giving a feeling of lightness and freedom of movement that might last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the participant of course.
R.E.W. - Relationship Enhancment Workshops
This is a 3-hour session designed for couples, married, partnered, significant other, or just two friends. If the relationship is faltering then perhaps it's due to the lack of simple touch. We communicate in numerous ways, not the least of which is simple touch. When touch is not employed as a viable means to express ourselves, we fall away, feeling isolated and distrustful. Even to the extent that we distance ourselves from our loved ones.
The first hour is a simple no-experience-needed guided yoga session. The poses and actions involved REQUIRE the participants to touch and rely upon the support of each other. As a considerable amount of movement is engaged here, general good health/fitness and range-of-motion requirements are expected.
The remaining two hours are used to teach simple non-invasive therapeutic massage techniques that do not require the removal of any clothing (except shoes and socks) nor will any lotions or oils be utilized. Guided thai-yoga massage techniques are taught; compression, joint manipulation and gentle traction ideas are suggested.
This is a special workshop that requires at least 2 couples to schedule a session. $95 per particpant and it is HIGHLY suggested to wear loose cotten clothing. Bring a yoga mat, a sheet, blanket and perhaps two small pillows. Not much $$ for THREE hours and a GREAT session !
